Legend of Edda is an upcoming MMORPG hosted by North American publisher, OnNet USA, through its MMO portal, GamesCampus. Developed by Korean studio, Eya Soft, who is well-known in the English market for Luna Online, the game focuses much on PvP elements despite its cute and anime-styled graphics design. But is there more to this game, or will it fall under the “generic” category of foreign imports? Let’s find out.
OnRPG: Hello, I am cinderboy, OnRPG’s journalist. Can you please introduce yourself?
Hey Fo Po, it’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Henry Law and I am the Producer for Legend of Edda English Service.
OnRPG: The Korean server for Legend of Edda went “live” not too long ago, and I am pleasantly surprised at how quick the English server will be going into Closed Beta. Why the decision to bring in the game to the English audience?
The decision to bring Legend of Edda to the English audience was decided even before the Legend of Edda closed beta. The game’s features and gameplay from initial test not only grabbed our attention but left us and wanting more. This is the feeling we want all players to experience when playing Legend of Edda for the first and thousandth time.
OnRPG: Players have been comparing Legend of Edda to other games but most significantly, Ragnarok Online. How will you differentiate Legend of Edda from the supposed competition?
Legend of Edda picks up where majority of these games left off sporting the latest in intense gameplay action to adorable character emotes. One very unique feature to Legend of Edda separating it from other games is the intense RvR combat. The RvR warfare, not yet seen in any of the competitor games, is an important part to both Legend of Edda’s storyline and gameplay. Legend of Edda has something for everyone regardless a person is looking to step into the MMORPG scene or a die-hard PvP player.
OnRPG: Can you briefly describe to us the background story for Legend of Edda?
Legend of Edda’ backstory pulls from Greek mythology. Zeus, the god of all gods, overthrew Cronus and the Titans and banished them to the deepest part of the underworld, Tartarus. Since then, the Titans have been finding ways to escape and take back what was rightfully theirs. For them to have any chance they needed assistance, so they called upon the Heroes. Promised with immortality and the power of the gods themselves from both the Olympian gods and the Titans, players must ally themselves and fight for their allegiance.
OnRPG: Let us now move on into the game’s elements. I understand that players will be able to choose between 2 sides, Olympus and Titan, for the much anticipated PvP wars. Will there be any differences choosing between the 2 sides?
Yes there will be. If either the Olympus Gods or the Titans become overpopulated, the game will temporarily halt character creation for the overpopulated faction to keep balance. In the Korean service of Legend of Edda, this system has not been put to use. The overall distribution in that service is very balanced and I expect the same for the Legend of Edda English service.
OnRPG: Will there be any mechanics to prevent either side to become too populated and hence, cause some disadvantages to the other?
Yes there will be. If either the Olympus Gods or the Titans become overpopulated, the game will temporarily halt character creation for the overpopulated faction to keep balance. In the Korean service of Legend of Edda, this system has not been put to use. The overall distribution in that service is very balanced and I expect the same for the Legend of Edda English service.
OnRPG: How will the PvP wars between the 2 factions occur? Will it be an instanced battle or will it be available too in the open game world?
There will be a lot opportunities for the 2 factions to slaughter each other in the game. The first is the free world PvP, where after the first few beginner zones, players from both factions will begin to share the same leveling areas. Here, players are open to attack from the other faction at any time, but of course there will be protected safe spots on some maps for both factions.
Then there are the Sacred Treasure Wars, intense RvR battles between the two factions. These battles are taken place on a separate battlefield, each with a different objective. Here players must work with their faction to strategically complete the objectives while annihilating the opposing force. The winning side earns their faction special buffs strengthening their characters temporarily.
OnRPG: What are the requirements for players to participate in the faction PvP wars?
There will not be any requirements to participate in the Sacred Treasure Wars! Players early on will be able to join and battle for their faction. Of course for balance and avoid hours of frustration and anger, players will only be able to battle others in the same level brackets. These wars will occur around the clock and be available to all players. Low level players should not hesitate to enter in these wars, even at the lower brackets players will be able to earn their faction stronger and better buffs.
OnRPG: What are some of the incentives to encourage players to participate in such PvP battles?
From the Sacred Treasure Wars, players can obtain class specific demi-god powers, special items, unique title ranks, and increased temporary bonuses to their characters. EYAsoft is currently working on adding more to this system, so stay tuned!
OnRPG: With PvP in the spotlight, how will the PvE experience in Legend of Edda fare? Will players who prefer to stay away from PvP have as much fun in the game?
Players can still fully enjoy Legend of Edda if they do not wish to participate in PvP. These players will still be able to benefit from faction buffs rewarded from the Sacred Treasure War. And there are a lot of instanced dungeons and world bosses for these players to tackle with great rewards.
OnRPG: Being a PvP-centric MMORPG, the cash shop will be scrutinised by many players. How much gap will there be for players who spend on the cash shop compared to the players who don’t?
The item mall will provide no direct benefits to the gameplay & PvP. Initially the mall will contain functional items for experience, drop, crafting protection, and cosmetic items such as costumes. More importantly, these items will not affect the balance of a live Sacred Treasure War. As a special event during the Legend of Edda closed beta test, all players will be able to try out the items in the mall for free. During this time, we encourage players to give their feedback on the items.
OnRPG: Are there any events planned to celebrate the upcoming Closed Beta or even the Open Beta phase?
Why wait for Closed Beta? There are events already running for Legend of Edda. These events give players a chance to win an exclusive Legend of Edda USB flash drive with early access to the closed beta. During both closed and open beta, there are a few events planned but I can’t release too many details yet but I can say that they will give players a chance to win both in-game items and physical merchandise. Visit the main site at http://legendofedda.gamescampus.com for more details on the events.
OnRPG: Thanks for your time! I will be looking forward to a smashing great time in Legend of Edda!
