If you are a PC gamer, you should have heard of Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo series of games. First, there was the original game back in 1997, followed by Diablo 2 in 2000 (I remembering skipping class to get my local store’s first copy) and of course, the most recent announced Diablo 3. There is a MMO which will capture the essence of the Diablo series and enhance the core features, and that game in particular is call Mythos.
Developed by Flagship Studios, the team consisted a group of alumni who worked on the Diablo series, making the game a worldwide hit. However, the studio sank before Mythos could be fully released to the public. Right now, the game is in the hands of Korean studio, T3 ENtertainment (part of mega MMO company Hanbitsoft). With the Korean Open Beta closing in next month on 9th July, a foreign media interviewed one of the leaders of the current development team.
Q: What sets Mythos apart from the Diablo series of games?
A: Even though Mythos and Diablo are similar in style, Mythos is primarily an online game. This is where the main different lies, where players can expect long term support and content. The dungeons in Mythos carry a similar “dark” element to that of Diablo’s, but for the open world environment, we made it more towards a fairytale and fantasy color palette and design. The hardest part will be creating characters which will suit both Asian and North American players. Alot of research and tweaks were done on that aspect of the game.
Q: What are some of the main differences between the current version and the one you inherited from Flagship Studios?
A: The version we got from Flagship Studios did not actually contain much problems and we were able to continue developing the game smoothly. Most of the quests actually were only to guide players throughout the game, but we edited it so that the quests will blend into the overall storyline. Flagship Studios actually developed the game till Chapter 3, and the rest by us. Each area will have its own unique storyline, and all will be knitted into a grand story which will please the players. Some of the NPCs in the game are actually modeled and named after the developers, so watch out for them!
Q: What are the main features of Mythos?
A: Other than experiencing a Diablo-like game online, there will be Open PvP and the PvP Arena. The quests at the start will be guiding players into the game, then they will start rewarding players with gears and later on, expand into the whole storyline. At level 30, players will be able to choose a faction. Players will be able to PK others from the opposing faction, but there will be no rewards for now. We will be adding a challenge dungeon feature in the new feature, where players can test their skills in completing the dungeons. There will be a ranking chart for this.
Q: What does the future hold for Mythos?
A: We are already planning regular updates, including new races and maps. We will also be continuously fixing bugs and tweaking certain aspects of the game to make it a fair game for everyone.
