An earlier version of this game actually launched in Taiwan before which we covered last year, so feel free to check it out. In short, The Rising of the Shield Hero: Waves of Calamity (aka 盾之勇者成名录：浪潮) is a mobile gacha RPG based on the anime series, which in turn is based on the light novel series of the same name. Unfortunately, we found that this China version is vastly inferior from the Taiwan version in many ways, including progression, combat animations, and many more.
The game just feels unnecessarily slow. We feel that majority of the potential players would have already known much of the story by being the anime series’ fans, hence there is no need to purposely tone down the pace. Overall from our hour of trying, The Rising of the Shield Hero: Waves of Calamity is a boring and lazy adaptation of the source material. We would be surprised if this game gets launched outside of Asia in the near future.
