[Game website] WildStar, the upcoming game from Carbine Studios and NCsoft, has just announced its “hybrid” business model to the public. It is a mixture of monthly payment and sort of Free-to-Play, but only if you are spending enough time gathering in-game currency.
1. Players will all need to buy the game first, either box or download. The first 30 days from this first purchase cannot be sold for in-game currency.
From the 2nd month onwards:
2. WildStar has a C.R.E.D.D. system, “Certificate of Research, Exploration, Destruction, and Development,” which sells for USD 19.99 and comes with 1 month of game time.
3. C.R.E.D.D. can be sold for in-game currency. Players with enough in-game currency can just buy from other players on a monthly basis.
4. If players decide to go for the traditional monthly subscription, it will cost USD 14.99, but it cannot be sold for in-game currency.
WildStar has delayed its launch from late 2013 to “hopefully” spring 2014. What do you think of this “hybrid” business model? Is it an awesome next-gen model,. or simply marketing terms used to fool the community?
