According to reports in South Korea, Singapore-based game company Garena has invested 30 billion Korean Won (around USD 25 million) in new Korean developer Alt9. Alt9 was founded in December 2021 with a grand aim to “innovate the stagnant mobile games market.” The in-development MMORPG, still in its early stages, will run on both mobile and PC platforms.
The new MMORPG project is pursuing hyper-realistic AAA graphics, and is being developed as a seamless open-world title where player decisions affect how the game progresses as a whole. Alt9 also has an ambitious aim to provide business models and services that can “promote win-win situations with customers.”
This nearly 25 million USD of investment in Alt9 by Garena is also said to be the biggest single amount in history when a games developer has just its core founding members. Alt9 mentioned that it will start intensive recruiting soon with this investment in all disciplines, including art, server, games planning, client, business planning, and more. Previously, Garena also invested in another Korean developer, Hound13.
