Earlier today, Japanese developer DeNA revealed its financial report for the first quarter of 2019. The eye-catching announcement in the report is a collaboration with The Pokémon Company to develop a game based on the world-famous IP. Other than it being a mobile title, no other information was provided. More details of the game, including genre, game title, features, and launch schedule will be made public at a later date. Other than Pokémon GO, other mobile games did not do well in the worldwide market, perhaps one of the main reasons The Pokémon Company is willingly to work with a 3rd party studio such as DeNA.
Of course, Nintendo likely introduced DeNA to The Pokémon Company, since both of them had already launched mobile games such as Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes. DeNA is also currently working with Nintendo on Mario Kart Tour, set to be available worldwide for mobile phones later this year. It is important to note that DeNA has only launched games related to Nintendo since 2016, and will only launch non-Nintendo games in Japan starting 2020. It is almost like DeNA being a studio under Nintendo these days!
