CrossFire, the most lucrative game in China, is having its own drama soon. Tencent, the game’s publisher, announced today that the online drama series has started filming during a media event. The leading actor is apparently Leo Wu, one of the fastest rising star in China’s entertainment industry with main roles in several big-budget TV series. Produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures, no other details are available now for this CrossFire series. It would be hard to stray away from the military theme though. Stay tuned for more updates!
In case you did not know or read my previous articles on CrossFire, it was the game which saved Korean developer Smilegate from going bankrupt. CrossFire initially did not succeed in its native Korea market, but Tencent swooped in to publish the military online FPS in China. The game was so successful that Smilegate’s founder, Kwon Hyuk-bin, was once Korea’s 4th richest person. He has since dropped to 8th with a USD 3.8 billion net worth.
