A couple of days back, the Chinese media reported about the rumored closure of 2K Games in China. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company, has since confirmed closing its 2K China studio following the cancellation of Borderlands Online. The Shanghai studio and offices were employing around 150 staff. Borderlands Online was a collaboration work with would-be publisher Shanda Games and has already held a couple of Closed Beta tests.

Take-Two Interactive also clarified that this did not affect its office in Singapore, as opposed to earlier reports. The NBA 2K Online team (based in Shanghai), or the testing facility in Chengdu, are also unaffected. It was claimed “determined that the additional time required to finish current projects at the studio, particularly Borderlands Online, would not yield a favorable return on investment.” I wonder what issues were uncovered during the tests…
