[Pre-order] Launching on 17 November on the Origin platform, Electronic Arts (EA) launched the beta phase for Star Wars Battlefront a few hours ago. Powered by Frostbite 3 engine, used to develop several titles such as the Battlefield series, I took a plunge and gave the beta a try. I am not really strong in comeptitive shooter games, but the lure of exploring the massive maps enticed me.
There are both single-player and multiplayer modes in Star Wars Battlefront, though only a few are accessible in the beta client. Within each mode, there are several different maps, each with different objectives and max player numbers (for multiplayer). Players can actually invite a friend on his or her Origin friend list, and play co-op in the single-player mode. I really appreciate these functions.
As you can see from the videos here, I am mostly fresh meat for the enemies. I wouldn’t say Star Wars Battlefront require much strategy (just my point of view), as compared to games such as Battlefield or Call of Duty. While that may disappoint players, the game looks absolutely gorgeous at the right settings. Star Wars Battlefront Beta will last till 12 October, and players can pre-order here.
