According to reports, Valve Corporation, the IP owner of DOTA 2, has sued Chinese developer Lilith Games and publisher Longtu Game through a court in Haidian District, Beijing. This court case is due to the likeliness of several characters from DOTA 2 used in the mobile game, 刀塔传奇, or Legend of DOTA. The game is preparing a European launch as well under a different name.
Valve Corporation is reportedly seeking a compensation of around 5 million USD, which seems like small change as Legend of DOTA had occupied the top mobile game spot in China for months. IP infringement is not an uncommon thing in China, especially when it comes to games. Hundreds of smaller mobile titles based on DOTA characters are still being churned out every year in the country.
