According to the head office in Japan, gumi has confirmed that the South Korea office is under internal investigation for embezzling more than USD 300,000 in company funds. Reports first pointed the finger at the South Korea office’s chairman, but gumi Japan denied that with an official press release seen below, claiming that it was the staff (no number specified) who committed the act.
The corruption follows the recent news where gumi announced an expected loss of USD 5 million for the fiscal year ending 30 April. In the previous fiscal year, a loss of USD 1.33 million was recorded. Known for games such as Brave Frontier, gumi blamed its unfulfilled international publishing plans, and founder Hironano Kunimitsu will not be taking a salary for the next six months.
