With the Alpha phase starting in less than 2 days, Taiwanese developer X-Legend Entertainment has revealed more gameplay information for Dragon Slayer, its flagship online game for 2014. Somewhat referred as the cute and chibi version of Monster Hunter, no overseas servers are announced yet.
Combat – For melee players, the target will be locked once it is clicked. If no target is selected, the character will attack in the direction he or she is facing. Basically, it is up to players to decide. For ranged players, single target must be selected while it is not needed for AOE spells targeting an area.
In the default key settings, 1 is tied to normal attack (can press and hold for continuous attacks), 2 is tied to heavy attack, R is tied to dodge roll while space is tied to jump. These keys can be changed in settings, so no worries. Skilled players will find dodge very useful, and will able to solo bosses.
Mounts – There will be over 100 mounts in the Alpha test, but only the ride ones will be available. Combat mounts will not be available. A collection book will also be added in the future.
Character stats – There are 2 primary stats, character level and dragon slaying level. Character level allows players to equip better gears, while dragon slaying level will give players stats points to add. The 5 stats are Attack, Penetrate, Defence, Critical and Health Points. Players can reset them anytime.
SP – There are no Mana Points (MP), and it is replaced by SP (I am guessing stamina points). Most actions will deplete SP, such as jumping, dodging, continuous bow shots etc. It is mentioned that the max SP amount will “increase along with quest progression”.
Boss dragons – There are quite a few types of boss dragons in the game, and here are the ones available in this current test phase.
Special dragon – Drops materials needed to craft the best gears with dragon motifs.
Elite dragon – Can be killed by solo players, drop materials needed to craft certain set gears.
Mystic realms – Maps where a rare dragon boss will appear, or even spawn a horde of dragons!
Other places to obtain materials and rewards include the Dragon Arena (solo and party PvP) and open world bosses. There are several more features, but I guess I will stop here just in case I run out of content for my report. Stay tuned for my report on Dragon Slayer this coming weekend!
