After announcing Naruto Online and signing a pact to license all manga under Shueisha in China, Tencent is set to crack down all games which are using the characters illegally in their games. The first step has been taken, with legal letters from Tencent’s lawyers being sent to various studios.
Shueisha is 1 of the biggest manga publishers in Japan, with titles such as Naruto, One Piece, Bleach and Toriko all under its wings. Affected games include Pockie Ninja, which is developed in China. The North America version is not within Tencent’s legal area.
Currently, there are only 3 legal online games with manga origins, which are Dragon Ball Online, Saint Seiya Online and the upcoming Naruto Online.
