[Source] City of Heroes closed back in November 2012, together with developer Paragon Studios. The unpopular decision was taken by parent company, NCsoft, and it led to a couple of last-minute petitions and cries of outrage by the immensely close-knitted community.
While NCsoft “felt the action was best for its customers”, the latest article hints at various roadblocks set by the Korean company, with little to no interest in helping City of Heroes to survive at all. Insights are also given by ex-Paragon executives, where they tried to buy the game back from NCsoft.
An interesting read no doubt, but to have such an active community backing the game is something quite missing for newer online games these days, given the influx of Free-to-Play titles where gamers can just quit and hop into any others.
A new superhero-themed MMO is in development, founded by fans of City of Heroes, currently known as The Phoenix Project. It is crafted by CryEngine 3, and I can’t wait to see the first actual in-game graphics.
