How many of you are still paying for The Secret World? Certainly not me. Funcom’s development team has now claimed to Eurogamer in an interview that the game will not be going “Free to Play” anytime soon, citing facts like they are not as big companies like ArenaNet to do so. Seriously? I am a believer of working within your limits, there is no point comparing with the “bigwigs” and lamenting about this.
A fellow colleague, who just stopped paying for The Secret World and jumped to Guild Wars 2, told me how Funcom is leeching cash out of players, with the initial price point, monthly subs and the mostly costume-based cash shop (was told titles can be bought as well). All these apparently became too much for him after just 3 months.
The folks went out to talk about how they would love the launch The Secret World after Guild Wars 2 and Mists of Pandaria launch, which was prevented primarily by costs issue. And of course, the hope of players flocking to The Secret World once they are tired of the common game mechanics found in both the games.
Is Funcom disillusioned? Or are they really positive about The Secret World’s future vision, without going deeper into context about some of the game’s potentially flawed mechanics? I am rooting for the former. Oh, do you know that Funcom is now working on a LEGO online game?
