Blade & Soul – Early Lyn race artwork shows a different vibe

See the cute Lyn race above from NCsoft’s Blade & Soul? Well, the original design wasn’t all that colorful and happy. The initial plan was for the race to be a “dark” one, with characters pulling out swords from their bodies and stuff like that, according to the first broadcast of Blade & Soul TV. The idea was scrapped after the developers wanted the Lyn race to appeal both to the male and female crowd.

The summoner class was expected to utilize some sort of “dark magic” initially, which was teased in a trailer back in the early days. Players were supposed to manipulate shadows to cast spells, which was then turned into summoning a cat… Which of course took everyone by surprise.

Then there is the dual-sword concept art. According to the show, this concept is apparently still in contention to be made into an actual game class in Blade & Soul.

And this was how the Lyn race could potentially look like during the early days of conceptualizing through artwork. This is really awesome stuff! Thanks to Blade & Soul Dojo for the find, and head on to the source for more pictures!

  1. I wouldn’t mind if they add a “dark” concept to the lyns eventually.

But people in NA/EU tend to be overly sensitive about video-games. Take them too literally.

  2. fascinating… The shadow-summoning summoner seemed so much better than the one they released. Look at that cute shadow dog!
