After going back into development for the past 12 months with just bits and pieces of information spread around the various fan forums in China, Swordsman Online is now ready to steal the show at ChinaJoy 2012 in next week. Developed by Perfect World Beijing, the Angelica III engine is heavily publicized on what it can do. Check out the new combat trailer below.
Almost every moves you can think of from Chinese martial art movies can be done, which is quite similar to the other 2 big martial arts MMO, Age of Wulin and Blade & Soul. PvP on water surface, running on walls, scaling buildings and yes, there is “aerial” combat as well while players are in the air using qinggong.
Skills can be countered by other skills, hence PvP will require some tactical thought process in the heat of battle. Add in active dodge and block, I am thinking I will need a new brain soon.
Now, here is something which the other martial arts MMO will certainly not have. Skill effects and combat affected by the natural environment. For example, while PvPing on a water surface, using a big-enough skill will cause the wave effects to be bigger and block the opponent’s view for a split 1-2 seconds. According to the official announcement, the Tang Clan’s fire skills work best on a bright and sunny day. What will happen if it rains? I wonder…
