Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s edition of The Weekend Journal. The Japan earthquake and disaster had been on the headlines all week and I am really happy to see big gaming corporations making mega donations (like NCsoft) and even smaller developers as well (like Hi-Rez). And of course, there are some lame marketing teams from various industries making distasteful advertisements using this incident, only to retract and apologize once netizens launch complains. I doubt that they are actually sincere though.
Ok, back to MMO news. The Korean government is actually paying up to USD 450.00 to anyone who reports the location of game currency farming studios. This new regulation will come into effect on 1st April next month. Details other than location are the company’s name, website, evidence and some misc details. But the world’s biggest game currency farmers are actually from… *drums roll*… China. While sting operations have been carried out by the Chinese police catching hackers, I doubt the currency farmers there are in much danger.
Well, that is all for the interesting MMO news this week. On a personal side of things, there is a glimmer of hope now in my career advancement plan. For those of you who do not know, I am currently working in the MMO industry but in a small, small, small position. Hopefully, I can bring some good news this time next week. Once again, if you are somehow working in the gaming industry, feel free to send me your LinkedIn profile here and we can hook up. Have a good week ahead!
