Personally, I think it is a HUGE mistake to even so directly taking a shot at the MMO juggernaut, World of Warcraft. Even if the words “We’re not int Azeroth anymore” seem harmless enough, a deeper look will get some people thinking that Trion Worlds is trying to go head to head with Blizzard’s masterpiece. While I am not exactly a WoW nerd, I am still in awe of their sales figures. With much investment placed into RIFT, the least they could do is to promote the game’s own features without referencing to any other games, which is just a shot in its own foot. Personally, I had a go during the game’s beta phase using a friend’s account, but it is really not that far away from the realm of Azeroth…
Well, time will tell if this game will match WoW’s figures or even get close, but here is a look at the game’s latest video ad. Geez, a really senseless move indeed. I am guessing they marketeers are banking on “controversial is better than a plain ad campaign.” It is still a double-edged sword…
