While I have been following the game since it was first announced as Heroes of Telara, RIFT has since entered the beta phase a few weeks ago. Being a Pay to Play (P2P) MMORPG, the free test period gives players an insight of how the game is actually like. Without going into the game’s content, Trion, the developer, has just announced the Collector’s Edition for the title. With such editions, one can expect quite a few freebies given, with RIFT being no exception. However, an item really caught my eye: Collector’s Satchel, which adds 24 bag slots.
Being a P2P MMO, all players are expected to be playing on the same field, without overpowered items given even from the limited editions. This satchel, in my opinion, will somehow imbalance gameplay. Gamers who have played Free to Play (F2P) MMOs for long will know that such an item is usually one of the most expensive and coveted cash items. Well, unless it can be gotten by all within the game, I guess my worry is unfounded. Or is this a way Trion is actually teasing that an in-game Cash Shop might happen in the future, with several P2P MMOs already using this hybrid model? Well, only the future will tell.
