NHN Korea, the publisher for Mythic’s MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, has just announced today that the game will be shutting down on 30th September 2010 without even going into a Open Beta phase. One reason was due to poor response and lack of interest in the game.
Other reasons include the failure of converting the game successfully from a Pay to Play (P2P) to a Free to Play (F2P) model and the less than satisfactory localization of the game. If you did not know, alot of details were actually developed exclusively for Warhammer Korea.
While NHN refuse to lay all of the blame on Electronic Arts (EA, the parent company of Mythic), the latter decided to propose the cancellation of the existing contract. With Age of Conan being converted to Free to Play (F2P) too in Korea, it remains to be seen if lessons will be learned from this issue…
