As I reported earlier, Korean MMO giant, NHN Corporation, seemed to be on the verge of completing a buyout deal for Eyedentity Games, developer of the immensely popular action MMORPG, Dragon Nest. However, it has now surfaced in the Chinese media that Chinese MMO giant, Shanda, has just agreed to buy over the developer for a price of USD 95million (some websites are saying USD 100million). Yes, it is indeed 95 million American Dollars. Industry experts say that Shanda has forecast Dragon Nest’s huge potential for future growth after enjoying a tremendous start to the game in China and at the same time, improve the company’s own development strength. The game is also a massive financial success so far in Korea and Japan.
Update: It has been confirmed that the takeover will be announced shortly, as the detail has been briefly included in Shanda’s latest financial report just published hours ago. It is said that development and management of the game will still be handled in Eyedentity Games’ Korean studio. Official announcements with more details will be made at a later date at a press conference.
