[Play free now] Formerly touted as a rival to Blizzard’s Overwatch, developer Gearbox recently announced a new Free Trial mode has been added to Battleborn, the colorful sci-fi online FPS. Other than a changing weekly roster of heroes (6 out of 30), no content will be locked and progression will be kept permanently. Nice deal! Gearbox also insisted this is not “Free-to-Play”, though it pretty much is.
Free Trial players can also unlock new Story Mode Operations via the Marketplace using in-game currency. Those who already owns the game will be upgraded to “Founder” status, which will include Legendary Gear, 1000 Platinum, 50,000 Credits, loot packs, a “Founder’s Crown” flair item, and other bonuses. The matchmaking system is also optimized in anticipation of a flood of new players.
