Bonfire Studios – Former Blizzard executive nets US$25 million funding

[Website] Before leaving Blizzard Entertainment in 2014, Rob Pardo was Chief Creative Officer of the developer, holding senior positions in games such as World of Warcraft, Diablo III, and many more. Today, he announced the opening of Bonfire Studios with US$25 million in funding from Riot Games and venture capital outfit Andreessen Horowitz. I wonder what piqued Riot Games’ interest…

The studio name has a hidden meaning, as Rob Pardo stated “The bonfire is a metaphor for the experiences we wish to create. We want friends to connect through our games and share amazing experiences, tell the stories, and come closer together.” It is unknown which genre of game will Bonfire Studios develop, but the MMORPG genre is hinted heavily in the announcement post on Medium.
